It's hard to pick just 5 "favorites" cuz I like so many. And depending on my mood dictates if I prefer more the upbeat rock type or the slow and sappy stuff. But here's a few....

Michael Jackson - Thriller

Journey - Don't Stop Believing

Bon Jovi - Living on a Prayer

Nitty Gritty Dirt Band - Fishin' in the Dark

Eddie Money - Two Tickets to Paradise

Joan Jett & The Blackhearts - I Love Rock 'n' Roll

Honorable mentions:
Elton John - Bennie & the Jets, Rocket man, Something about the way you look tonight, Your Song

AC/DC - You shook me all night long

Bryan Adams - Have you ever really loved a woman, Heaven, Summer of '69

Rick Springfield - Jessie's Girl

Guns N Roses - Paradise City

And yeah... probably about 30 others that I would rank as "top songs"

Who am I? - Breach of trust Link

They are so low key I could not find a video. Instead I linked one of the two from them I found - Complicated

Sorrow - Bad Religion Link

Lights Of Heaven - Joe Satriani Link

I Alone- Live Link

Father's Son - 3 Doors Down Link

I agree with Amore, the music I listen to is based around my mood. I tried to post do a little of everything I like however I don't feel 5 was enough.

I can't link 40 gig worth of songs and my list always changes - the older I get the longer the list grows - kudos to Tim for Cities in the Dust - I doubt anyone else here has ever heard of the band let alone the song.

I miss Patsy Cline and Pink Floyd should really have done another album by now.

Music is forever like books, favorites come and go but they are all cherished and revisited over the years.

I started with 20 songs I liked.. then I started thinking of newer songs by the same bands and I ended up making my list My favorite "newer" songs
All are hq mp3s directly linked to my file server.. except the one video that I linked for the videos sake
Just click and listen or click, download and listen

10 Years - Division - Beautiful

Shine Down - The Sound of Madness - Second Chance

Nickelback - Dark Horse - Gotta be Somebody

Nickelback - Dark Horse - I'd Come for You

Staind - Illusion of Progress - Believe

Puddle of Mudd - Famous - Psycho

Puddle of Mudd - Come clean - She f'in hates me
(I added this one because I happened to watch the video
and it made me laugh my ass off so I decided to share)

Godsmack - Faceless - Serenity

Incubus - Light Grenades - Dig

Incubus - Light Grenades - Love Hurts

Like alot of folks, I listen to totally different music when I'm happy, sad, mad or what not but the above would be good for me, when in a good mood
(or at least, not a bad mood heh)

My tastes runs to alot harder and alot louder when I'm not feeling good

Like most people my taste is music is fairly malleable depending on my mood. These are probably the songs that evoke emotions more than most others.

Dream on (Orchestra Version) – Aerosmith
Yellow Ledbetter – Pearl Jam
The Widow – Mars Volta
Sheep Go To Heaven – Cake
Happiness is a Warm Gun – Beatles/Tori Amos

There's oh so much more than these, but those come freely off the top of my head.

Heh heh... I remember the old Karaoke days.

Forgot to add my Karaoke favorites, one of which I almost got lynched for by a huge Redneck.

Chocolate Salty Balls - Chef
Come Sail Away - Eri Cartman (Cover of Styx)

I'll always remember the immortal toothless words...

"You making fun of Styx, boy?!?"

i really cant explain why i like the music i like ... so i wont try. only thing i'll say, i very rarely know the lyrics to a song, i usually just listen to the music. and same as everyone else, these are not top 5 because there are way too many favorites, these are just the ones that came to mind. a little variety.

Muse - Stockholm Syndrome

The Absence - Dead and Gone (wish like hell there was an instrumental version or that they wouldnt do the demoic voice thing, but meh, damn awesome playing)

System of a Down - Needles

Lullaby from Pan's Labyrinth

Tenacious D - Tribute

and i just had to throw in a spanish song ... old song from 70s or something, idk.
apparently, he's singing to his wife in the video. also, unlike the other songs i listed, i actually know/like this one's lyrics.

Leo Dan - Mary Es Mi Amor

edit: reading a post of McBain's, i remembered this one. had to slip it in.

Smashing Pumpkins - The Beginning is the End is the Beginning
